Exploring Lantern Of The Deep Without A Walkthrough
I almost reached for a guide twice while playing Lantern of the Deep, and I'm glad I didn't. This is a game that rewards patience, and looking up answers robs you of its best moments.
The puzzles are nearly all environmental — the solution is somewhere in the room, not in a menu. When you're stuck, the move is to stop fiddling and just look around slowly with your lantern. Nine times out of ten the answer was right there.
Managing your lantern light adds a gentle tension without ever becoming annoying. Don't leave it on while you're thinking; douse it, consider your options, then explore with purpose. You'll rarely run short that way.
The story unfolds through the environment too, so rushing means missing it. I spent whole minutes just reading murals and watching the light move through the water, and that's where the game really landed for me.
If you only take one tip: slow down. It's a short adventure, and savouring it is the whole point.
